Domaine Bott-Geyl - Pinot Gris Grand Crus 2012
The Furstentum vineyard has nearly 30 hectares of vines facing due south, most of which are steep and at the relatively high altitude, 350 to 400 metres. Here the microclimate welcomes Mediterranean plants.
The terroir is marl, chalk and sandstone, which filters the water, while the subsoil is largely formed of chalk of the Dogger period.
It is an ideal terroir for Gewurztraminer and Pinot Gris, which are subtle and ethereal like fruit confits and honey. Again, the wines have an ageing potential of 15 years or more and advised of drinking no sooner than 4 years. Decanting is a must to allow the full expression of the wine through aeration.
(editors notes) Forget everything you think you know about Pinot Grigio.. this baby is next level. Complex aromatics and spice that will leave your nose lingering in your fluted stem ware. Try with meaty fish dishes like monk fish and as with the Riesling will stand up to heat and spicy flavours. Or play it safe with roast pork or even lamb
